‘The Gallery’ welcomes back South American superstar HERNAN CATTANEO. Previous
visits have seen him tear up the Box with a progressive, melodic sound that no other
DJ can imitate. This Friday will be no different! Joining him is hot Israeli DJ ‘GUY J,’
now an established member of John Digweed’s Bedrock family. Known for driving beats
and sweeping synths, this is sure to be a real treat. Last but definitely not least, we
welcome a home grown talent in JOHN ‘QUIVVER’ GRAHAM. A seasoned producer,
John’s eclectic mix of underground tunes with big room anthems is NOT to be missed!
Argentina’s most famous export since Maradona, Hernan’s early music tastes gave little
sign of what was to come – listening to Simply Red, Level 42 and Depeche Mode. His first
exposure to electronic music came in 1987, with a friend bringing Chicago House records
from New York. From that point onwards Cattaneo was hooked, electronica being a solice
through a time of political and social unrest. It is this passion that affirmed Hernan as a
cultural revolution, in a continent where dance music was in its infancy. It is easy to see
why Hernan is now revered globally – with an itinerary fitting that of a superstar DJ. Algeria,
Spain, Cyprus, UAE, Tunisia and Hungary have been graced by Cattaneo in past weeks.
Number thirty-two in last year’s ‘Top 100,’ Hernan excels in a group dominated by trance
jocks. With his productions infrequently out of the Beatport ‘Top 10,’ an imminent release in
the seminal ‘Renaissance’ series - and boasting the firm endorsement of Sasha, Digweed
and Oakenfold, the facts speak for themselves. However Cattaneo’s sets have to be
experienced, taking the dancefloor on an emotional journey! Dark, intense beats grinded
together with shimmering highs. Progressive undertones entwined with tech-house bleeps
and techno riffs, seamlessly blended. The decks are to Hernan - what the guitar was to Jimi
Hendrix, or a paint brush for Picasso. A tool for creating a magical masterpiece, perfect for
The Gallery – that is excellence in the art of sound!
Guy J is next on the bill, a notorious producer with talent in abundance. His warm, rich
sound a perfect accompaniment - guaranteed to produce those hands in the air moments!
This reinforces Guy’s skill behind the decks, invoking euphoria from the crowd - not usually
associated with the ‘typical’ progressive genre. The signature track from album ‘Esperanza’
is testament to this – diverse, warm and engrossing. Following the same attributes, his
remix of Jori Hulkkonen’s ‘I Am Dead’ was handpicked by James Zabiela for his latest
CD, ‘Renaissance – The Masters Series.’ But perhaps the greatest sign of Guy’s flair, is his
remix of Eric Prydz’s ‘Pjanoo’ – reworking this chart hit into an underground smash. Expect a
ground breaking set from Guy J at The Gallery.
John ‘Quivver’ Graham is a veteran of clubland, being a main part of the 90’s ‘superclub’
era. From humble beginnings as a coal miner - to top songwriter and vocalist, John’s
performances draw on his vast experience. He builds the emotions of the crowd through
impeccable tune selection – and mixing synonymous of a seasoned professional. Ever
present at the cutting edge of the scene, Quivver’s versatility is demonstrated by productions
under a variety of aliases – Space Manoeuvres and Tilt to name but a few. ‘Skanna’
also showcased his darker, more tribal side. A combination of these sounds led to being
signed for Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label, a passport to massive global gigs. It is with
great pleasure we welcome John back to the Gallery, where he never disappoints!
‘Syncessential’ take over proceedings in the 103, famous for throwing many a party! Martin
Dawson headlines, better known to you and me as ‘KING ROC.’ His sets tweaked with
gizmos and gadgets, always ensure they go off big time! Accompanying him is Gallery
veteran TANIA VON PEAR, and our good friend JORDI SANCHEZ – a hotly tipped rising
star.
Martin Dawson’s alter-ego is fitting, as here is one man who definitely knows how to rock!
Being half of the production duo ‘Two Armadillos,’ Roc coined a distinctive deep house
sound. However his 2009 debut album ‘Chapters’ is worlds apart - as much ‘old school’
as it was groundbreaking. Fusing different genres to a jacking bassline, it pushed musical
boundaries and asked questions of the listener. This is epitomized in King’s remix of Above
& Beyond’s anthem ‘Good For Me,’ the famous lush vocals overlaid onto a progressive,
funky backdrop. Taking all these ingredients, King Roc live is nothing short of jaw dropping,
especially in the intimate surroundings of the ‘103!’
If there was a ‘Miss Gallery’ competition, then the title may well go to Tania Von Pear. Her
tough, chunky house sets are the stuff of legends. This led to the award of a prestigious
Gallery residency – and the birth of the famous night ‘Going Places,’ which hosted such
stars as Cattaneo himself. A subsequent global tour led to Tania fast becoming a household
favourite, in all four corners of the globe. Production wise, Von Pear has carved her own
sound - dreamy melodies combined with thumping basslines. The dance fraternity awaits
with baited breath, as to new releases with co-artist Graeme Lloyd. Watch this space!
Finally, we have Jordi Sanchez – who can easily hold his own with the big boys! Making
waves in clubland with a series of mind blowing sets, The Gallery welcomes back Jordi, with
his unique brand of Balearic grooves and surging beats. After supporting his namesake and
legend – Roger Sanchez in 2009 (which also saw a memorable Ministry debut), there are big
things to come from this young prodigy.
The Gallery at Ministry of Sound, every Friday night...
Residing in Cape Town South Africa, 30 year old Leroy Tayler has made a huge impact on the local club scene and has become prolific within the ever growing South African gay house market.
Drawing early inspiration from 80’s synth-pop, Leroy has always been surrounded by music and is influenced by many genres made visible by his immense diversity when playing.
Leroy is truly passionate about playing and producing and this is obvious by the amount of energy he exudes when surrounded by even the softest tune aching with potential.
Leroy is a crowd pleaser through and through, “I see talent in this boy, his senses for pleasing a crowd will see him packing dance floor after dance floor” says acclaimed international D.J. Alan X
Hi’s positivity, talent and general flair are what makes this soon to be world famous d.j. what he is.
Leroy became involved in the Dance scene in roughly 1995 buying vinyl’s from his local D.J. Syndicate. Finishing school freed up a lot more time and offered him the opportunity to delve more into the scene that was fast becoming a part of his spiritual make-up. Along the way there were a few key moments symbolizing breakthroughs in this young, aspiring career. Leroy was offered gigs at among others super Clubs PURE and 96 degrees (often seeing upwards of 2000 party-goers a night), where he never failed to please. It was then that people started to take note.
As time went by Leroy’s style became more refined and he made the decision to move away from Hard House and make the shift to Progressive which at that stage was resonating far more with him. He also started to feel that Hard House had become too commercial and the scene alongside it was falling behind.
Leroy then went on to secure his first residency at the then renowned O-BAR – Voted best S.A. club 2 years running by Cape Scene magazine. He held this residency for 5 years all the while racking up gigs around the country. The O-BAR was rocked by many of South Africa’s top D.J’s. and afforded him the opportunity to play alongside the likes of Ryan Dent (Flash Republic), Craig De Sousa, Nick E Louder, Jody K, Nick Mathews (Irridium project) and Dan C (Funk Deluxe) to name a few. South Africa’s finest were again taking note and Leroy’s musical career was on track.
With the success at the O-BAR came the next chapter in Leroy’s career. A gap in the market and a scene on the verge of exploding was the perfect combination for what came next.
Leroy Tayler burst onto the South African gay music scene with a residency at the capital of Gay dance clubs SILVER. He was propelled even further into the scene having developed a signature hybrid of Deep, Funky and Progressive house music – the crowds loved him.
Leroy’s late night sets gained him legendary status among clubbers and he was literally on every flyer within the scene over night.
Some of the events he played at were MCQP, Qc2, Gay Pride and 5FM’s Fireman’s ball to name but a few.
Again Leroy was offered the opportunity to play alongside more of South Africa’s hottest talents namely; Dino Moran, Roger Goode, Dean Fuel, Shaun Duvet, DJ Fresh (Fresh house flava), and Stuart Hillary as well as internationals Alan X, Salvation U.K. legend Pier Morrocco, The Sharp Boys and a host of other top name players.
CURRENT
The past 24 months have seen Leroy Tayler delve into the world of production and as with his success playing tunes he’s on his way to fast becoming the new producer on the block. One of his tracks was used as the official anthem for last year’s Fireman’s ball and with a CD compilation on the way he looks set to light the international airwaves alight.
He is currently touring all over South Africa with residencies in JHB and Cape Town and is making his mark as a regular on top local radio station 5FM.
Leroy is planning to head to Europe shortly and with everything he’s achieved locally – we strongly suggest you WATCH THIS SPACE CLOSELY .
